Wranglers have always been four-wheel-drive (save for a few unfortunate early JK models), had manually shifted transfer cases, featured solid front and rear axles, and had removable tops and doors. And the fifth-generation Wrangler JL expanded engine options to include a diesel, a turbocharged four-cylinder, a plug-in hybrid, and the first-ever V-8 for Wrangler. The four-door Unlimited model debuted with the third-generation Wrangler JK. Leaf springs were lost with the second-generation Wrangler TJ in favor of a link-coil suspension. The first-generation Wrangler YJ featured leaf springs front and rear and can be easily identified by its square headlights. While the SUV's origins date back to World War II, the vehicle didn't receive the Wrangler designation until 1987. Jeep's Wrangler is undeniably the most popular and influential off-road vehicle of all time.
